Resin costing · reviewed 19 June 2026
What does a resin 3D print really cost?
Resin price is only the visible part. A defensible quote also includes supports and waste, wash and cure energy, disposable supplies, finishing labour, machine wear and failed-print risk.
From resin bottle price to cost per print
Match the units before entering the calculator. A 1 kg bottle is not necessarily 1 litre. Use the density for your exact resin from its technical data; do not assume a universal value.
Price per litre = price per kg × density in kg/litre. A density given in g/ml has the same numerical value in kg/litre.
Hypothetical example: USD 30/kg and 1.10 kg/litre give USD 33/litre. An 80 ml estimate including supports costs USD 2.64 in resin. If that estimate covers four identical parts, material cost is USD 0.66 per part.
Add any expected process waste that is absent from the slicer estimate once. Then include consumables, electricity, labour, machine wear, failed-print allowance, fees and margin. Material cost alone is not the selling price.
Use the calculator: choose Resin, enter the volume allocated to one part and the converted price per litre, then enter the other costs on the same per-unit basis.
The resin cost formula
resin cost = estimated ml ÷ 1,000 × price per litrepower cost = printer kWh + wash/cure kWh, multiplied by tariffexpected unit cost = direct cost ÷ success rateInputs people commonly miss
| Input | What belongs here | How to improve it |
|---|---|---|
| Resin volume | Part, supports and process waste | Compare slicer estimate with bottle usage across several jobs |
| Wash fluid | Allocated replacement and disposal cost | Track litres purchased and jobs processed |
| Disposables | Gloves, filters, wipes and containers consumed | Use a per-batch or per-unit allocation |
| Post-processing power | Wash and cure equipment energy | Measure kWh at the wall |
| Labour | Setup, removal, washing, support removal, curing and finishing | Time hands-on work separately from machine time |
| Failure allowance | Unsuccessful plates, damaged supports and rejected finishes | Record failures by resin, printer and job type |
Illustrative example
Assume 80 ml at USD 35 per litre: resin is USD 2.80. Add USD 1.50 consumables, USD 0.14 total job/post-processing electricity, USD 1.10 machine wear, USD 3.75 labour and USD 1.50 packaging. Direct cost is USD 10.79. With an 8% failure rate, expected cost is about USD 11.73 before selling fees and profit.
Those are calculator defaults and arithmetic illustrations—not observed prices, measured power or a market benchmark. Replace them with your own supplier invoices and production records.
Safety and disposal are not optional overhead
Follow the resin manufacturer’s current safety data sheet, printer instructions, local ventilation requirements and waste-disposal rules. This costing guide does not provide chemical-safety or disposal instructions. Time, PPE and compliant disposal costs still belong in the business model.
